Wendy Winn has written poems and short
stories and articles since she was a child,
and pursued journalism as a career when
she realised it might be difficult to pay
on the rent on a poet’s earnings.
Journalism, however, can be quite poetic
– in her many years of work, she had
the good fortune to meet a totem-pole carving
police officer, an avant-garde artist who
grew grass in briefcases for city-stifled
employees and even Lady Diana and the Grand
Duke of Luxembourg.
She worked for various publications in
the United States before arriving in Luxembourg,
where she worked as editor of the Luxembourg
News for eight years and contributed to
other publications. Winn has a BA degree
in English and a master’s degree in
creative writing and taught English for
two years at Wright State University in
Ohio as a graduate student. She won second
prize in The Vincent Brothers Review’s
2003 Short Story contest, was a contributor
to the 2004 Creative Writing Consortium
anthology in Luxembourg, and participated
in the CWC’s theatre project ‘Art
Echo’ in 2005. She has recently written
her first novel although she has yet to
do anything with it but feel satisfied with
herself for finishing it, and she continues
to write short stories and poetry and has
become more involved in the fine arts by
attending the local art school 4terra. Her
paintings are featured on the cover of the
15th edition of the American Women’s
Club’s guide to Luxembourg, Living
in Luxembourg, and she has recently launched
her own website showcasing some of her works
